Elementary Teacher

Did you enter the field of education because you love working with children? Because you wanted to make a difference? ...because you share the joy when observing the flash of insight, the “aha” moment on the face of a child when they suddenly “get it?” Have you longed for small class sizes (10 children maximum for academic subjects) so that at the end of the day, every day, you KNOW you are making a difference?

Laurel Academy is currently accepting applications for an energetic, enthusiastic certified (or almost certified!) Elementary Teacher who embraces explorative learning, the mastery of fundamental skills (ELA or math) who additionally has broad interests that can be shared with children during free-study time, after school or at Summer Camp. (There are dozens of activities our children enjoy during the school day… yoga, piano playing, art, chess, theater, cooking and gardening to name a few.) Our academic curriculum is robust but we know how much difference these kinds of activities make when considering the education of the whole child

We are going to bring on one more teacher who can think outside of the box, either part-time or full-time.

Position Description:

We are seeking an innovative, team-oriented educator with a growth mindset, to join us in continuing our expansion. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, forward thinking teacher who is passionate about collaborating with colleagues in creating valuable, interactive classroom spaces where children will engage in math, science, physical fitness activities, and games of all sorts.

Teachers focus on creating vibrant multi-age classroom communities that build a strong social-emotional foundation while challenging students to strive for ever higher levels of personal achievement and academic mastery as they progress through their studies. During these crucial early years, students learn to compete with themselves and collaborate with each other.

Our team is looking for:

  • a dynamic educator with elementary classroom teaching experience who embodies the ethos of lifelong learner,

  • manifests a genuine passion for gifting children with the very best learning experiences,

  • possesses a strong foundation in a variety of educational practices,

  • can demonstrate the ability to use innovative and flexible strategies in service to a variety of learners,

  • attests to superb classroom management skills, and

  • if not adept, is interested and willing in integrating technology into the curriculum when appropriate.

All candidates must demonstrate respect for the school’s mission, values and philosophy and have an Independent School perspective. Diversity is embraced in both faculty and student composition.
